Below is the video of the first time I got to ride the ONYX RCR. I remember being impressed with the torque, sound, and breaking.
TORQUE
I enjoy riding variated mopeds because of the torque. The RCR is faster off the line for sure because unlike a moped, it doesn’t have to rev up to produce the torque like a Hobbit or Derbi. It accelerates very quickly, but not so much that you feel like you are going to break any land speed records. In the video, you notice how quick it accelerates for a small bike/moped.
NOISE
The sound, for obvious reasons it is so quiet. No engine, so no exhaust or intake sounds coming from it. Also due to no engine, it is a smoother ride as well. You don’t have the vibration from the engine flowing through the bike. It feels like riding a bicycle down a steep hill. It would be fast and quite.
BRAKING
The last item I was impressed by at first ride, is the breaking. It comes with front and back disk breaks. The front brake is a hydraulic disk brake setup similar to what is available on some Tomos models. The rear brake is a cable pull system similar to what is found on some bicycles or mountain bikes. In the video, you can hear me testing out the breaking. I have mopeds with new drum brakes and thought those brakes were good, but the stopping power of the dual disk brakes on a moped sized bike makes a difference. Now I understand why so many moped builders convert their wheels to disk brakes.
