MOPED OF THE DAY | 1977 SPARTA FOXI GT

Today’s moped of the day is a United Moped Foxi GT.  United Moped was a distributor of the Foxi GT moped.  This Foxi is different from the KTM Foxi Deluxe line.

This Foxi is also known as a Foxi Sparta.  Sparta was a moped manufacture out of Holland. Sparta designed and produced the GT for United Moped to import to the US market.

The frames of the two Foxi mopeds are different.  The Foxi GT has more curves and a chrome fuel tank covers.  Both mopeds are powered by the same Sachs 49cc engine line.  A KTM Foxi has engine adapters to fit a Sachs 504 or 505 engine that can be removed to fit a Puch E50 or ZA50 engine. The Sparta Foxi does not have the same adapter and was designed for the Sachs engines only.

SPARTA FOXI GT APPEARANCE

Mario (https://www.instagram.com/amaro2xx/) cleaned up and polished this Foxi GT Sport.  He restored it to a factory finish from 1977.  The chrome and paint have held up well for a 42-year-old moped.

The frame is a step-through stamped and welded steel design.  The frame is also a two-piece that bolts together in the center above the engine. The fuel tank is in the frame and stylized with two chrome side covers.  Steel polished front and back fenders.  More chrome on the rear rack, fork tubes, rims, shocks, engine, exhaust, headlight, handlebars, and other details. This machine is beautiful.

All US-spec Foxi GT mopeds came with a long seat for a passenger.  Standard Magura levers that came on most vintage mopeds of the time.  Sixteen-inch spoke wheels. It has a small cluster of control switches.  Not common on most mopeds, it’s bulky but I love it.
