A Puch X40 for the US is easily described as a Sears Free Spirit but with 12-inch wheels. For most seeing this Puch X40, they would just call it a Sears Free Spirit. That could be said, though there are still some differences, as it sits, from and a Free Spirit. Mainly just the rear swingarm being that of a Puch Maxi.
Instagram user Rafff744 (https://www.instagram.com/rafff744/) turned this mini moped into an average size moped. The impressive factor about this build is the attention to detail and simplicity. He kept this build simple and clean but built it from the ground up. He started with just a frame and gas tank. It was missing everything else seen here. It did not have the X40 forks, swing arm, seat, or wheels to be restored. Instead, he built it into a complete but original looking moped.
What you see here isn’t a restored Puch X40 or Sears Free Spirit, but more of a custom moped finished from other moped parts. This is one of my favorite things about mopeds. A lot of the parts from various models are adaptable or interchangeable. If you want to lower your moped you could use parts from a smaller moped. Alternatively, if you wanted to make your moped bigger you could use parts from a moped with a more taller stance. Comment below what you think about this build or what you love about building mopeds.
