Murray 8315/8320

Murray 8315/8320 is a moped model made by bicycle manufacturer Murray. Murray designed the frame of the moped models. Though there are multiple models of the Murray moped, the difference in the models is cosmetics like chrome fenders vs painted or 1.5hp vs 2hp two-stroke E50 engines.

The Murray Mopeds design is inspired by the Sears Free Spirit. Both are extremely similar and parts are interchangeable. The rear section of the Murray is the main difference between the two. The Free Spirit has a unique seat with rack combo. Murray’s design has a more moped traditional rear rack, this rack is designed into the frame, it cannot be unbolted.

Murray manufactured mopeds from 1979 through 1982. One of the few American made mopeds.  The rest of the moped was sourced from engine manufacturer Puch with their single speed E50. Wheels, controls, and electrics from Leleu, Magura,  and CEV.  This sourcing helped Murray to add a moped to their product line.

This moped of the day is a functional Murray.  It is visually different from what we normally post.  I think it is the color. It pops out to me and I wanted to share it with you all.  Mopeds are a unique motor-vehicle design, even with slight rust and mix-matched parts they are still eye-catching.   Joey (facebook.com/joey.durso.568) is the builder of this Murray and I found this in the Facebook group lovers of Puch Mopeds.
