MOPED OF THE DAY | Kinetic TFR

0

Kinetic TFR mopeds are two-stroke mopeds that share a similar engine as Vespa mopeds.  It is one of the few mopeds built into the early 2000s.  People have mixed reviews on the moped.  I have to admit they have some quirks but I think most mopeds do.

This Kinetic has been heavily modified by Joe (https://www.instagram.com/xmb63/) of Pitsburg Moped Army branch Mopitt (https://www.instagram.com/mopitt_mpc_pgh/).  He got his Kinetic in a trade for a case of beer.  After riding it, he began to modify the moped slowly.  I would say each modification sparked another.

He started out with mild performance upgrades to the engine.  Adding the basics of a larger exhaust, carburetor, and high flow air filter.  This improved the top speed a bit but it wasn’t enough to help drive the moped up hills.  His next mod would be to convert the single-speed TFR into a CVT.  He got a hold of the transmission parts from a variated Vespa.  Most would probably just swap the gears to make a single-speed variatied, but he took it a step further.

Not impressed by the wheels of the moped, he laced the transmission into a BMX rim that was lighter and stronger.  This would then lead him to make a new front wheel from BMX rims as well.  Instead of using the stock front brake hub, he made his own to accommodate a front disk brake upgrade. At this point, he has custom wheels for a mild Kinetic build.

During that winter season, he began to really go in on this build.  He modified the frame, then upgraded the engine some more.  The front forks and rear suspension upgraded.  The boost in performance leads to the failure of the subframe/swingarm. A custom swingarm is fabricated.
