This vintage moped of the day is mostly a Sachs Prima G3. The Sachs G3 is one of the bigger top tank mopeds produced and shipped to the U.S. The frame is built well and unlike other top tank mopeds with a rear cow, the G3 cow is made of steel instead of plastic. Alex of the Cream City Cranks took his Sachs Prima G3 and left it mostly original but powered the moped with a Derbi Start V (5) flat reed engine and now its a “Revo G3”.
SACHS PRIMA G3 APPEARANCE
This Sachs makes a great sleeper moped. Its appearance is mostly original. The color, seat, and decals are all original. The forks have been painted or coated at some point, the originals matched the color scheme of the moped. The side covers over the engine and under the seat have been removed. The fenders are nice and polished, and include the mud flap in the front. The rear fender has been chopped and the tail light relocated behind the seat cow. The bullet headlight bucket has been painted white with a polished bezel. Some mid rise BMX handlebars are added to the top of forks. Rear suspension is upgraded to reservoir air shocks. Sava GP1 tires on Derbi Revolution wheels complete the build.
Alex had some mods done to the Sachs in order to pair it with the Derbi flat reed engine. The down tubes on G3’s are not made of thick steel, he had these replaced with some that would support the load of a rider and for the engine to mount to. He also needed somewhere to place his feet and had some foot pegs made from moped pedals and pedal arms. This mod is a creative way to resolve not having the original moped pedals.
