This Honda Hobbit PA50 built by Nick (https://www.instagram.com/life.on.wheelz/) offered some good inspiration on a current PA50 project. Increasing performance to a PA50 requires more modification compared to the PA50II. The less time-consuming method would be to use an engine from a PA50II. The PA50 is heavily restricted to a 20mph top speed. Making them go faster is not as easy as installing a kit.
Nick has definitely focused on the performance of this Hobbit. One of the weak points of Hobbit mopeds is the soft rear suspension. I appreciate the upgrade of the rear shocks. I experienced an accidental wheelie due to Hobbit torque and placing my weight over the soft shocks. The headlight housing is another weak point because it is made of plastic that cracks over time.
In the US market, the PA50 models only came with spoke wheels. Mag wheels are available on the Camino model sold in Europe. Finding a set of mag wheels isn’t easy like other moped models. Hobbit rear wheel houses the transmission and brake. This makes the wheel options limited.
