Gilera Citta Vintage Moped

Gilera Citta is a European two-stroke vintage moped.  Gilera mopeds are powered by the two-stroke Vespa rotary engines found in Vespa moped models.  This Citta belongs to Robin ( https://www.instagram.com/robinn24397/ ) he has a nice collection of these small mopeds.

This Citta is the Route 66 version.  Its an all black color scheme with 12-inch Grimeca Razze Incrociate Snowflake wheels.  The Route 66 has colorful graphics with a map image from Los Angeles to Chicago and other accents.  Citta’s were not sold in the U.S. market but this version was inspired by the iconic Route 66 of the U.S.

Gilera Citta mopeds were offered in both single speed and CVT options.  They came with pedals like traditional mopeds and also a kick-start option.  This Citta had the pedals replaced with pegs.

They are built similar to Vespa Bravo, Si, and Grande with a sub-frame/swingarm that holds the engine and rear wheel.  Then the swingarm is attached to the frame by a single mount up front and two rear shocks.  The swingarm should be similar in size to the Vespa Bravo.  The Grande model rear shock mounts are further back then the Bravo model on its sub-frame.  The wheels can be fitted to any other Vespa moped.  Vespa moped performance parts fit the Citta.

The gas tank is integrated into the frame design.  All models come with a solo pear seat.  A passenger seat cushion is available for an additional rider.  Small euro headlight with the integrated speedo.

What do you think one would look like with a set of 16-inch Vespa mag wheels and a set of Bravo hydraulic forks?  I would like to see these small wheels on a larger model like the Grande.  For Vespa fans, would you prefer this over the Ciao?  Let me know in the comments below.

I own the same moped. These are classic. You shoeldn´t change a thing! I removed all the route 66 stickers like 10 years ago and I regred it now! This one looks really good, Is it still in this condition or are the pictures really old?

I agree it looks great with the Route 66 decals. His Instagram account isn’t available but I would think him being a Citta collector that it would still be in the same condition.
