Have you ever been on a moped ride and needed to change a spark plug or tighten a bolt? If not you, then maybe someone else in a group ride has. A well tuned and maintained moped can still break down while on a trip. Here are 4 small toolkits for mopeds that are small enough to carry on a ride and have some essentials for a roadside repair.
4 SMALL TOOLKITS FOR MOPEDS – BEST BUDGET
The first on our list pictured above is a basic and cost-effective setup. I personally have this kit and have used it many times. At rallies, I have pulled over to loan out these tools a number of times. These tools are low quality and I would not recommend them for everyday wrenching. I would use this kit for simple maintenance jobs like spark plug change or jetting a carburetor.
The tools come with a plastic button snap pouch similar to a school pencil case. The pliers, like all the tools in this kit, are not the best but I have used them a number of times for taking the tips off spark plugs or for brake cable adjustment. Three open end wrenches, one 8 and 10mm, another a 10 and 12mm, the last a 14 and 17mm.
A screwdriver with three bits, a flathead and two different sizes Phillip screwdrivers. Finally a spark plug wrench with a lever. The spark plug wrench works with NGK spark plugs, it is a bit of a loose fit but still works. This wrench should be shallow enough for Motobecane plugs as well.

The CruzTOOLs SKDMX is our best for travel toolkit. It has more quality tools than the budget toolkit listed first. Its compact tool pouch is just a bit larger than the budget toolkit but of a better quality.

4 SMALL TOOLKITS FOR MOPEDS – RUNNER-UP
The Kolpin toolkit is another great toolkit option. The carrying case it comes with is still small enough to carry on a ride but not smaller than the CruzTools or Budget toolkits. This toolkit comes with a good amount of essential tools for roadside repairs and very similar to the CruzTools SKDMX.
Inside the carrying case, the Kolpin comes with an 8, 10, 12, and 14mm wrenches. A crescent wrench that opens to 200mm. A screwdriver with flipping bits Phillip and Flathead. Spark plug socket (13/16in. & 5/8in.) with leverage handle. Five-inch locking pliers. 3, 4, 5 and 6mm hex key wrenches. Electrical tape and nylon zip ties.
